Four

Alright, today was yoga and I am not a fan. Chris does yoga and sweats like crazy and I just don't sweat. He informed me that if I am not sweating than I'm not doing it right. (I didn't think that was very nice!) I do what the stretchy people on the video do, so how can I not be doing it right?

Yoga is hard, time consuming and it requires patience. I don't feel like I gain anything from yoga. Yes, I am stretching, reaching, bending, breathing, focusing, blah, blah, blah- but I'm not sweating! Plus, I am so focused on not falling over and breathing that I cannot clear my mind. I would love to find yoga relaxing like a breath of fresh air. :) I like running because you sweat and feel like you really accomplished something. Yoga is part of P90X therefore I will do yoga.

After my yoga workout I ran 2 good miles on the treadmill. Another day checked off!

3

I crawled out of bed slow this morning. I am so sore! Everything hurts! Whine, whine, whine. ugh! I decided that I was going to jump right into working out as soon as I got back home from taking my little guy to school, so I could check it off the list.

Today was Arms & Shoulders plus Ab Ripper. I loved A & S- Big Tony calls those muscles the Glamour Muscles, which makes total sense. It was fantastic. I really enjoy working my upper body, so I knew that I was going to be a fan. One of my goals is to get more definition in my arms, so I enjoyed this workout a lot! The only change I am going to make is I need to buy some 15 lb. weights. All I had to work with today were 18 lbs. (too heavy in most situations) and 10 lbs. (too light), so I need something in the middle.

I am really trying to have a more positive attitude toward the Ab Ripper workout. It is only 17 minutes long, which even I admit isn't that bad. In the beginning though, Big Tony tells you that you will be doing over 300 exercises in that time period and it always overwhelms me. I don't think I will ever be able to do that video with Chris though because I shout and scream obscenities at the t.v. throughout the entire thing. Chris would tell me to get a grip!

Day Two

Plyometrics is high impact and full of jumps & squats. The majority of the exercises last 30 seconds and you do a group of them one after the other. Then, you have the joy of repeating the same group of exercises. You get reasonable breaks to get some water and get your heart rate down.

I was feeling ambitious again today and didn't want to miss out on a spin class with my friends. That was a mistake! Laura taught spin class, which was tough- she loves gear 18 and likes to make us suffer. Actually, she is a ton of fun, plays great music and likes to challenge us! :) I did the class before plyometrics. I think it would be smarter to do cardio after P90X if possible. I felt drained throughout, but I made it and liked it!

Before I started, I decided to make one of my delicious well perfected protein shakes to get some fuel. As soon as I started the video, Tony Horton tells you to let an hour pass since you've last eaten. Oh well! I felt a little queasy at first, but not enough to make me take a break. I will make note of that next time for sure.

Day One

Day one consisted of Chest & Back then 17 minutes of misery otherwise known as the Ab Ripper. Chest & Back is all about push-ups and pull-ups. I can do 30 solid standard push-ups, but when you throw in military style, diamond and decline push-ups I struggle. I cannot do pull-ups without assistance YET, but I will get there. For now, I put my feet on a chair for extra help.

I truly hate working my abs. Did you hear me? Hate it! I knew the Ab Ripper was going to be challenging. I struggled big time and at one point I just stretched out on the floor and completely skipped an exercise that I knew would be incredibly difficult. I am not going to complain anymore about that otherwise Chris is going to get onto me. :)

The beautiful thing is Tony Horton tells you to "Do your best and forget the rest." It's all about doing what you can and getting stronger each time. You keep track of your reps and weights on worksheets and watch yourself progress as the 90 days pass.

I finished my P90X and hopped on my treadmill for a 3 mile run. I wanted to get some cardio into my workout. I still want to spin and run with my friends, so I am going to have to figure out how to make that work. I feel great and I am excited to see my progression.

A New Adventure

In January, I decided to make some changes in my nutrition/workout routine. My family began clean eating and I love it. I sleep better, have stronger workouts and feel fantastic! I decided to stop being just a "runner". Now, I run, spin and lift weights. In the beginning, I was very intimidated in the weight lifting area of the gym, but I decided to just go in there and do what I wanted to do for myself. To hell, with what other people think, right? I saw quick changes in my body and I loved it. Up until two weeks ago, I was doing a full body lifting workout routine three days a week, but I strained my pectoralis muscle and took two weeks off to allow it to heal.

Chris has been doing P90X for 4 weeks and has seen big changes. He has been encouraging me to jump on the bandwagon, so I am kicking it off tomorrow morning. I am going to throw myself in it and give 100%. I will post day 1 pics this week for all of you to see. Believe me, that wasn't an easy decision, but I think it will hold me accountable and maybe inspire someone else to give it a try. I want to continue to run with my friends and go to spin classes, so I am going to have to somehow squeeze that into my day. The extra cardio will be an added benefit for sure.

My goal is to post something everyday on this blog to at least let you know that I did my workout for the day. It might be short and sweet at times though. :) I am excited to start a new adventure!
